Common questions

Which coffee maker is right for you?

Which coffee maker should I buy?

It depends on the cup you want. Choose a moka pot for strong, espresso-style coffee and milk drinks, an AeroPress for a clean, smooth cup and easy travel, or a cafetière for full-bodied coffee in any quantity with the simplest cleanup.

What's the best way to make coffee without a machine?

A moka pot, AeroPress or cafetière will all make excellent coffee for well under £40. The moka pot is closest to espresso, the AeroPress is the cleanest and most portable, and the cafetière is the easiest for larger amounts.

Is a moka pot better than a cafetière or AeroPress?

Not better, just different. A moka pot makes an intense, concentrated cup; a cafetière makes a smooth, full-bodied mug; an AeroPress makes a clean, bright coffee. Many people happily own more than one.

Do you need an expensive coffee maker for good coffee?

No. A £30 Bialetti Moka Express or Bodum Chambord makes genuinely excellent coffee. Spending more usually buys induction compatibility, capacity or looks, not a better cup.

Which coffee maker is best for beginners?

A cafetière or an AeroPress, because both are hard to get wrong: add coffee, add hot water, wait, and press. A moka pot is only slightly trickier and is easy once you learn to keep the heat low and pull it off early.
